“Sargaalaya” Kerala Arts & Crafts Village

Pioneering a novel model to promote tourism, Kerala Tourism  has set up an exclusive crafts village where traditional artisans can showcase skills and products, and sell them at fair prices while a visiting tourists can pick up one or two lessons in the subtleties of crafts-making.  “Sargaalaya” Kerala Arts & Crafts Village, Iringal is situated at Iringal, 40 kms away from  Kozhikode City. Project inaugurated in February 2011.  Located just 200 meters  from Kozhikode – Kannur National Highway, spread over sprawling 20 acres of land in the banks of Moorad River is an unique project of Tourism Dept., Govt.vof Kerala  which is  one of its kind in India and widely acclaimed by visitors already .   One of the main objective of “Sargaalaya” – Kerala Arts & Crafts Village is in the sphere of increasing awareness and knowledge of crafts of India with specific focus on Kerala traditional arts & crafts.  Dept. of Tourism, Govt. of Kerala  entrusted  professional management of the Village  to a renowned Co-operative institution - ULCCS Ltd.  which was awarded as the best cooperative of India in 2008  by  National Cooperative Development Corporation(NCDC).Sargaalaya bring together under a single roof rich heritage as well as the people who keep it alive. Amenities available here include the State of the Art Marketing Centre for Handicrafts, Mini Conference Hall, Open Air Theatre, Children’s Play area & Activity Corner, Multicuisine Restaurant, Guest House, Art & Craft Library and Boating facility. During the festival season Village will host All India Craft Exhibition.   Beside all these, Sargaalaya is having a Craft Design and Technology Development Centre and will also function as a Centre for Training of identified traditional crafts of Kerala.  Based upon advance request from visitors, we can arrange performance of different Kerala  traditional arts forms and martial art form “Kalari”  in the Village.
