Tirupparankundram is a town located about 10 kilometers from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. It’s famous for the Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple, a cave temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. Here’s a closer look at this sight-seeing place:

  • Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple: This is a unique temple as it’s carved out of a giant rock. Inside the temple, you’ll find shrines dedicated to Lord Murugan, Valli, and Teyvayanai. There’s also a separate shrine dedicated to Skanda Kumar, another name for Murugan.

The temple is significant for Hindus and Muslims alike. There’s a Muslim dargah (shrine) here dedicated to Sekandar within the temple complex. A 14-day festival is held here in March or April to commemorate Lord Murugan’s victory over the demon Suran.
